Is Bitget Available in India? (2026)
Partly. Bitget stopped accepting new Indian sign-ups on 6 February 2026 at 4:00 pm IST while it completes FIU-IND registration. Existing Indian accounts still work — deposits, trading and withdrawals are unaffected and balances are not frozen. If you do not already have an account you cannot open one, so use an FIU-registered exchange instead.
Can I open a Bitget account in India in 2026?
No. Bitget stopped onboarding new Indian users from Friday 6 February 2026 at 4:00 pm IST. According to Bitget’s India support notice, published on 4 February 2026, account creation is blocked where a new user selects India as their country or region of residence, or presents Indian KYC documents during onboarding.
Note what this is not: India is absent from the 28-entry prohibited-countries list in Bitget’s Terms of Use of 14 August 2026. Bitget did not exit India — it closed the front door while it sorts out a registration.
What the pause covers, and what it does not
The block is narrow but complete on the sign-up side, and it leaves existing customers alone. Bitget spelled out both halves in its own FAQ.
| Area | Status for India |
|---|---|
| New sign-ups | ✗ Blocked from 6 Feb 2026, 4:00 pm IST |
| Channels covered | App, website, API and any alternative registration channel |
| Existing accounts | ✓ Log-in unaffected, subject to standard risk and compliance checks |
| Deposits, trading, withdrawals | ✓ Available for existing Indian users |
| Existing balances | Not frozen by the onboarding pause |
| Travellers using Indian IPs | Accounts opened before the date keep access; new sign-ups from India are not permitted |
Why Bitget paused Indian onboarding
Registration, not enforcement. Bitget framed the move as a proactive, procedural step to align with India’s evolving anti-money-laundering and reporting framework under FIU-IND, and said pausing new sign-ups lets it complete the required registration and compliance work in an orderly manner.
India requires every Virtual Digital Asset Service Provider serving Indian users to register with FIU-IND under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Offshore exchanges that skipped that step have been shut out of the market before, so Bitget choosing to pause rather than push through is the conservative read of the rules.
Which exchanges accept new Indian users?
Look for FIU-IND registration. Bybit registered with FIU-IND as a Virtual Digital Asset Service Provider and resumed full spot and derivatives trading for Indian users in 2025, which makes it the direct answer if you came here to open an account today. The detail is in our Bybit in India guide.
| Exchange | New Indian sign-ups | FIU-IND registration |
|---|---|---|
| Bitget | ✗ Paused | In progress — reason for the pause |
| Bybit | ✓ Open | Registered as a VDASP |
| MEXC | ✓ Open | ⚠ Not confirmed — verify |

India’s crypto tax still applies either way
Changing exchange does not change your tax position. Indian users owe a flat 30% tax on crypto gains plus 1% TDS on transfers, regardless of which platform executed the trade — including trades made on an offshore account opened before the pause.

No. Bitget stopped accepting new Indian registrations from 6 February 2026 at 4:00 pm IST while it completes FIU-IND registration. The pause applies to anyone selecting India as their country of residence or using Indian KYC documents, across the app, the website and any other registration channel.

Why did Bitget pause new Indian sign-ups?
To align with India’s anti-money-laundering framework. Bitget described it as a proactive, procedural step that lets it complete the required FIU-IND registration and compliance work in an orderly way. India is not on Bitget’s prohibited-countries list, so this is a pause rather than a country block.
When will Bitget reopen registrations in India?
There is no published date. Bitget says normal operations are expected to resume after all relevant Indian regulatory requirements are completed, and points users to its official announcements page for updates. As of 21 August 2026 we found no announcement that onboarding had reopened.
Which exchanges accept new Indian users?
Exchanges registered with FIU-IND as Virtual Digital Asset Service Providers can onboard Indian residents. Bybit registered with FIU-IND and resumed full trading for Indian users in 2025. Whichever platform you use, India’s flat 30% tax on crypto gains and 1% TDS on transfers apply to you, not to the exchange.
