Bitget names 28 prohibited countries and regions in the “Prohibited Countries” definition of Bitget’s Terms of Use, last updated 14 August 2026. Ten are ordinary regulated markets where Bitget holds no local licence. The other 18 are sanctioned or conflict-affected jurisdictions. Bitget does not publish a reason per country, so the category column below is our own classification, not Bitget’s.

What changed for Bitget in 2026
Four things moved this year, and three of them tightened access. Bitget confirmed its Singapore block in writing, paused Indian sign-ups, and filed for an EU licence it does not yet hold. The United Kingdom is the one market where Bitget is actively onboarding under a regulator’s framework.
On its 21 July 2026 notice Bitget stated plainly that it “is not licensed, approved, registered, authorized or in any other way regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore” and that Singapore is a prohibited country. In India, a support notice dated 4 February 2026 stopped new registrations from 6 February 2026 at 4:00 pm IST while Bitget completes FIU-IND registration; existing Indian accounts were not affected.
Why is Bitget restricted in these countries?
Two reasons cover all 28 entries. Licensing explains the ten regulated markets: the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Kazakhstan each require a local authorisation Bitget does not hold, and Germany, France and Austria require a MiCA licence it has not yet been granted. Sanctions explain the remaining 18, from North Korea and Iran to Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk.
The EU case is the clearest example. Bitget does not appear in the ESMA register of authorised crypto-asset service providers. Its EU arm filed a MiCAR authorisation application with Austria’s Financial Market Authority on 17 June 2026, run from a Vienna headquarters set up in January 2026 — an application, not an approval. National MiCA transition periods ended on 1 July 2026, which is why the three EU/EEA markets sit on the prohibited list while the application is pending.
If Bitget blocks your country, who accepts you?
It depends where you are — and the honest answer for several countries is “not the big offshore exchanges either”. Match your country to the row below rather than assuming any global platform will onboard you.
- United States: Bybit and MEXC also block US users. Use a US-regulated exchange — see US alternatives.
- Canada: Bybit and MEXC block Canada too. See Canada alternatives.
- Germany, France, Austria: use a MiCA-authorised exchange. Bybit EU GmbH holds a MiCAR licence granted by Austria’s FMA in May 2025 and passported across the EEA — see Bitget in Germany.
- Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Kazakhstan: Bybit and MEXC also restrict Singapore and Hong Kong, so a locally licensed platform is usually the only compliant route. ⚠ Not confirmed — verify your own eligibility with the local regulator.
- Sanctioned jurisdictions: there is no compliant alternative, and we do not suggest one.
- Everywhere else: Bitget onboards you normally — compare it against MEXC in our Bitget vs MEXC guide.

How Bitget compares with the other big offshore exchanges
All three restrict the United States and Canada. Beyond that the maps diverge sharply: Bitget is the only one of the three blocked in Germany and France, while MEXC is the only one blocked in the United Kingdom.

Frequently asked questions
How many countries does Bitget restrict in 2026?
Bitget’s Terms of Use, last updated 14 August 2026, name 28 prohibited countries and regions. Ten are regulated markets where Bitget holds no local licence, including the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Austria, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Kazakhstan. The other 18 are sanctioned or conflict-affected jurisdictions.
Is Bitget available in Germany?
No. Germany is named as a prohibited country in Bitget’s Terms of Use. Bitget holds no MiCA authorisation in the European Union, and France and Austria are blocked for the same reason. German residents need a MiCA-licensed exchange instead.
Is Bitget banned in the United States?
Yes. The United States is a prohibited country and the ban extends to 14 named US territories, including Puerto Rico, Guam and the US Virgin Islands. US persons are prohibited from using the platform under Bitget’s Terms of Use.
Does Bitget have a MiCA licence in the EU?
Not yet. Bitget does not appear in ESMA’s register of authorised crypto-asset service providers. Bitget EU filed a MiCAR authorisation application with Austria’s Financial Market Authority on 17 June 2026, and that application was still under review as of August 2026.
Can I use a VPN to access Bitget from a restricted country?
We do not recommend it. Hiding your location with a VPN breaches Bitget’s Terms of Use, and exchanges routinely freeze accounts and withdrawals when a geo-restriction breach is detected during identity verification. Use an exchange that legally accepts your country instead.
Is crypto illegal in the countries Bitget restricts?
Usually not. For most of the 28 entries the issue is licensing, not legality: Bitget does not hold the local authorisation needed to serve retail users. Crypto trading itself remains legal in Germany, France, Japan, Canada and the United States through locally licensed platforms.
