Crypto Exchange Access: What Changed in 2025–2026 (and What Is Coming)

Last updated: August 2026

Exchange access is a moving target, not a fixed fact. Since May 2025 we have logged Bybit’s MiCAR licence and UK return, KuCoin’s EU authorisation frozen by Austria’s FMA, Bitget pausing Indian sign-ups, the end of MiCA transition on 1 July 2026 and Brazil’s 30 October 2026 deadline. Here is the dated log: what is coming next, then 2026, then 2025.

What is coming next

Two dates are already fixed. On 30 October 2026 Brazil’s grandfathering window closes and transactions with non-authorised virtual-asset providers become prohibited. On 25 October 2027 UK firms move onto FSMA permission, under final rules the FCA published on 30 June 2026. Three more items sit without a fixed date: two EU licences in limbo and a US exit period running into 2027.

⚠ “No date” means exactly that: a regulator has not published one. We do not log announced intentions, target quarters or press-briefing plans as changes — only a document you can open. If you need certainty before a deadline, move funds early rather than betting on a licence landing in time.

2026 timeline: what changed this year

Eight dated changes so far in 2026, and they run in both directions. Bitget paused Indian sign-ups in February and filed for an EU licence in June; Austria’s FMA froze KuCoin’s EU entity in February and partly unfroze it in May; MiCA transition ended on 1 July; Bitget confirmed its Singapore block in writing on 21 July. 2025 timeline: what set the stage

Six dated events in 2025 explain most of today’s map. Bybit collected a MiCAR licence in May and rebuilt UK access in December; KuCoin’s operator pleaded guilty in the US in January and its EU arm was authorised in November; Brazil published in November the resolutions that now drive the October 2026 deadline.

Terms of Use revisions we logged in summer 2026

Seven Terms revisions in two months, across six exchanges. None of them made headlines, and every one of them can move a country in or out of a restricted list without notice. This is the single best argument against trusting a “current status” page that carries no revision date of its own.

What this means for you

Three habits follow from the log above. Check your country against the exchange’s own terms before every deposit, not once at sign-up. Do not leave your whole balance on one offshore venue in the weeks before a deadline like 30 October 2026. And do not route around a geo-block with a VPN — that is the one move that turns a restriction into a frozen account.

  1. Re-check before each deposit, not once. Bitget’s terms were revised on 14 August 2026, KuCoin’s on 29 July 2026, Gate’s on 22 July 2026. A screenshot from last quarter is not evidence.
  2. Split balances ahead of a fixed date. Brazil’s 30 October 2026 cut-off gives a non-compliant provider 30 days to cease operations. Withdrawal queues get long exactly when everyone else has the same idea.
  3. Prefer a licence you can verify yourself. A MiCAR authorisation appears in ESMA’s register; an application filed with a regulator does not. Bitget EU has filed and is waiting; KuCoin EU holds an authorisation it may not yet use.
  4. Never use a VPN to open an account in a prohibited country. It breaches the terms you accept at sign-up, and exchanges freeze balances and withdrawals when the breach surfaces during identity verification.

If the venue you use is closing in your country, the practical move is to open an account somewhere that names your country as accepted. Of the exchanges we track, Bybit is the one with a live EU entity: Bybit EU GmbH holds a MiCAR licence granted by Austria’s FMA in May 2025 and passported across 29 European Economic Area states, which you can verify in ESMA’s register yourself. Outside the EU the answer differs by country — run yours through the country checker on our home page before you sign up anywhere.

⚠ Check your own country first. Bybit does not serve the United States, Canada, Singapore, mainland China or Hong Kong. For sanctioned jurisdictions there is no compliant alternative and we do not suggest one. If your country is blocked, the honest answer is a locally licensed platform, not a workaround.

How we keep this current

This page is a log, not a snapshot, so it is only worth what the checking behind it is worth. Every dated line above is pinned to a primary document — an exchange’s Terms of Use with its own revision date, or a regulator’s notice — and to the country page where we state the same fact. Last full review: .

  • Daily: an automated watch scans regulatory news for the ten exchanges we track — Bybit, MEXC, Bitget, Binance, KuCoin, OKX, BingX, BloFin, Gate.io and Hyperliquid — and flags any item naming a country we cover. It flags; it does not edit. A person checks the primary source before any page changes.
  • Per entry: a line only enters the table with a date and a document. Where an exchange publishes a clause number, we quote it — clause 6.1 for BloFin, clause 2.5 for Gate, Article 17(5) for KuCoin, clause 1.6 for Hyperliquid.
  • What we exclude: announced intentions are not changes. A plan to apply for a licence does not move a country on this page; an authorisation in a regulator’s register does. Where we could not confirm something, the country page says so rather than guessing.
  • Counts are ours, categories are ours. Exchanges rarely publish a total or a reason per country. When we say 28 for Bitget or 43 for BloFin, that is our count of distinct entries in their own text, and we show the arithmetic on each list page.

Frequently asked questions

What changed for crypto exchange access in 2026?

Eight dated changes so far. Brazil’s central-bank resolutions took effect on 2 February, Bitget paused new Indian sign-ups on 6 February, Austria’s FMA froze KuCoin’s EU entity on 19 February and partly unfroze it on 18 May, Bitget EU filed for a MiCAR licence on 17 June, national MiCA transition periods ended on 1 July, and Bitget confirmed its Singapore block in writing on 21 July.

Did Bybit come back to the UK?

Yes. Bybit relaunched UK access in December 2025 through a partnership with FCA-regulated Archax. UK users can register, but the product set is narrower than the global platform: access to high-leverage retail derivatives stays restricted under FCA rules, and the exact scope is still evolving.

What is the 30 October 2026 deadline in Brazil?

It is the end of the grandfathering window under the Banco Central do Brasil framework in force since 2 February 2026. Existing domestic and foreign operators had to apply for authorisation between 2 February and 29 October 2026. From 30 October 2026 transactions with non-authorised virtual-asset providers are prohibited.

What changed under MiCA on 1 July 2026?

National MiCA transition periods ended, so only authorised firms could keep serving EU clients after that date. Bitget EU filed its MiCAR application with Austria’s FMA on 17 June 2026, two weeks before the deadline, and an application under review is not an authorisation. Bybit EU GmbH has held a MiCAR licence since May 2025.

Why does KuCoin have an EU licence it does not use?

Austria’s FMA authorised KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH on 27 November 2025, then prohibited it from taking on new business on 19 February 2026 over unfilled anti-money-laundering and sanctions roles. On 18 May 2026 the FMA lifted that ban while stating that commencement of business operations remains inadmissible.

Is Binance coming back to the UK?

We have no confirmed date and we do not log intentions. Binance’s UK offering is shaped by the FCA financial-promotions regime, and you should confirm its current status on Binance’s own terms. What is confirmed for the UK: Bybit relaunched limited access in December 2025 via Archax, and the FCA published final rules on 30 June 2026 for firms holding FSMA permission from 25 October 2027.

How often does this timeline change?

Often enough that a status page written in January is unreliable by July. Between 15 June and 14 August 2026 alone we logged seven Terms revisions across six exchanges — Hyperliquid, BloFin, OKX twice, Gate, KuCoin and Bitget. We scan regulatory news daily and re-check each claim against the primary document.

Rules changed eight times in 2026 alone. Before you deposit anywhere, confirm your country on the exchange’s own terms — then use a venue that names it as accepted.
